MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Georgia Interagency Transition Council is to address the needs of individuals with disabilities in the state of Georgia in their transition to a higher level of self-sufficiency as they move to post-secondary options for their lives.

Action Statements:

Including the receipt of pre-employment transition services, transition services and other VR services to students with disabilities who are eligible or potentially eligible for VR services.
To serve as a mechanism for agencies, including State educational agencies (SEAs) and local educational agencies (LEAs) to collaborate with all state agencies that provide transition support and clearly specify plans, policies and procedures for coordinating services to facilitate their smooth transition from school to post-school employment-related activities and competitive, integrated employment of students.

The Council’s goals are:

To promote and facilitate, through collaborative efforts, the appropriate transition of students to adult services for individuals with disabilities
To provide a forum for its members discuss, support and challenge current practices in serving the needs of transition aged individuals with disabilities
To align policy and practice at the state and local level to share information regarding current events and legislation at the local, state and federal levels that will impact the lives of transition aged individuals with disabilities
To foster innovation in transition program design and service delivery strategies between state agencies, service providers, and local school districts
To develop and provide common trainings and professional development opportunities to improve transition and employment outcomes
To develop active communication and outreach efforts to increase families and student’s awareness of coordinated transition services and opportunities
