Planning for FY24
Posted on May 22, 2023, by GAPMP
Stacy reached out to the GaPMP to see what topics were most requested in our school districts. She is planning for FY24 and wants to get her training calendar in the books before she leaves for summer break.
Here is the list of ideas that Stacy ended up with
- Coming to terms with a disability – students and parents aren’t aware they have a disability or are embarrassed by being a part of special education; things parents can use at home for academics and behaviors.
- Workshop on ASPIRE for new to SpEd families
- Parent 2 parent of Georgia offers a wide variety of workshop
- Transition and mental health
- Inclusive Post-Secondary Education
- Self-Determination
- SSI/SSDI workshop.
- Other workshops: summer camps, testing, respite for parents/support and self-care, IEPS/504s
- Family Supports/NOW & COMP Workshop (how to fill out paperwork, etc…)
- Financial Planning (ABLE accounts, Estate Planning, etc..)
- Legal (Guardianship/POA)
- IEP Workshop with P2P (most popular)
- IEP 101-Special Ed Law
- What is a Parent Mentor and what are the resources they know (for parents/staff)
- Fam Support, MC, Legal Guardianship, community resources and IEP info
- What is my child eligibility for: SSI, MC, etc
- What is this Parent Survey? (the transition specialist and I team up and read each question and explaining the meaning of the question)
- Guardianship/Alternatives
- Potty Training — provided visual supports that they could take home with them.
- Standing Up for your Child without Stepping on Toes – about proper communication with school staff
