Under the guidance of North GLRS Director Sandy Walden, members of the Northeast GaPMP region and GLRS staff teamed up to do an end of summer training on Friday, July 25 2025 at the Mountain Education Charter School Resource Center in Cleveland, Ga, that was born out of a Transition Collaborative survey asking teachers what they wanted more information about.

“Those topics became the agenda for our training,” said Franklin County Parent Mentor Teresa Bruce, who also chairs the Transition Collaborative. https://parentmentors.org/experience-to-lead/ and co organized this event with Walden.

Walton County’s Parent Mentor Bonnie Morris participated in the panel discussions.

Topics for the day long event included:

  • Transfer of Rights
  • A panel discussion featuring several real IEP transition planning scenarios teachers might encounter
  • Writing compliant Transition Plans and SOP meeting tips
  • Post Secondary School documentation and tips
  • Roosevelt Warm Springs Virtual Tour and GVRA information on Pre-ETS program and other services
  • Guardianship applications
  • NOW/COMP applications

Participants were also treated to a special guest speaker, Chloe Echols, pictured right, whose family runs Jaemor Farm, a popular Hall County destination. She talked about seeing the transition challenges her family experienced for her brother Cohen, who has Down Syndrome and is currently navigating their own family’s transition planning process.
