Family Friendly Fright Fest
Posted on October 27, 2024, by GAPMP

Meet Crystal Williams from Putnam County
Crystal offered families in Putnam County Schools and those in sorrounding school districts access to a sensory friendly trick or treating event.
Using social media as the primary way of getting the word out, she provided a welcoming environment for families who might otherwise shy away from coming to a public event.
She collaborated with the local recreation department and invited nearby school districts.
Here are some tips for creating a sensory friendly trick or treating event
- Prioritize minimizing loud noises
- Eliminate flashing lights
- Keep crowds small (designate small groups to walk around together)
- Offer a calm environment
- Offer a variety of treat options for those with food allergies
- Allow children to choose treats rather than requiring the child to say, “Trick or Treat” in order to receive a treat.
