2022 Phil Pickens Award Winners

Gordon County Special Education Director
The Phil Pickens Leadership Award is a statewide honor presented to one Parent Mentor and one Special Education Administrator. Through this award we recognize outstanding leadership in the collaborative work between, school, home, and community, to improve the outcome for students with disabilities. This award also recognizes outstanding leadership accomplishments in special education, and outstanding contributions to the Georgia Parent Mentor Partnership program.
Alecia Segursky is our winner for the Phil Pickens Director Leadership Award for 2022-2023. She has worked as a Special Education Lead teacher, Assistant Special Education Director, and as the Special education director of Gordon County Schools. In addition, she has sered on the Gordon County Special Olympics Committee and also holds a position on the board for the George Chambers Resource Center, a local resource for adults with disabilites. Alecia brings a positive light into the world of Special Education and continues to make a lasting impact on all who she encounters.

White County Parent Mentor

This award also recognizes outstanding leadership accomplishments in special education, and outstanding contributions to the Georgia Parent Mentor Partnership program.
Jane Grillo is our Winner for the Phil Pickens Parent Mentor Leadership Award for 2022-2023. Jane has served as the parent mentor for White County School District for more than 16 years. She works on Transition Panning with parents and is one of the leading transition gurus in the state of Georgia. In her district she has developed and implemented an amazing “Warrior not Worrier” initiative.She goes far beyond her work within her own district to help other parent mentors and parents of children with disabilities.
Jane partners with her son every Tuesday for a Facebook live show called “Transition Tuesday!” which can also be found on their YouTube Channel. She has served as the GaPMP Photographer, webmaster, public relations expert, and cheerleader for many years. Over the years other parent mentors have learned a lot from her presentations including her presentation concerning Waiver Advocacy. Jane always presents at the Georgia Parent Mentor Kickoff conference and New Mentor training. She never toots her own horn but always celebrates others. Jane Grillo, we salute you!
